Dr. Daniel T. Cordaro is a founder, strategic operator, and advisor to mission-driven teams who has built and grown multiple for-profit and nonprofit ventures, scaled international movements, and helped organizations turn bold visions into durable systems for impact. His work brings together emotion science, education, governance, fundraising, and AI-enabled operations in service of human flourishing.

He is an Ashoka Fellow, Edmund Hillary Fellow, and UBS Global Visionary whose work has reached more than 2.5 million people across 20+ countries. Over the past decade, Daniel has raised and helped steward more than $13.7M in mission-aligned capital, built international wellbeing initiatives with schools, governments, and foundations, and advised leaders across education, philanthropy, technology, climate, and public health.

Daniel founded The Contentment Foundation in the wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting, growing it into a global nonprofit delivering evidence-based wellbeing curricula to students, educators, families, governments, and organizations. His team created the PEACE Scale, one of the first validated global measures of perceived contentment, now used nationwide in the United Arab Emirates and beyond.

Before becoming a founder, Daniel trained inside one of the deepest lineages of modern emotion science. He holds an M.S. in chemistry from UC Berkeley, where he trained under Nobel Prize–winning chemist Carolyn Bertozzi, and a Ph.D. in psychology from UC Berkeley, where he directed the Universal Expression Project, one of the largest cross-cultural studies ever conducted on facial and vocal emotion. His work expanded the canon of universal emotions to include awe, contentment, desire, and embarrassment, among others.

As part of that research, Daniel made first contact with one of the last previously uncontacted communities on earth in the high Himalayas of eastern Bhutan. Across two decades, he has personally decoded more than 10,000 facial and vocal expressions of emotion, making him one of the world's most experienced expression analysts.

Daniel later served as a faculty member at Yale University, where he taught his signature course, Human Emotion, and served as Director of Wellbeing at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. His research and commentary have been featured by The Washington Post, ABC News, the Greater Good Science Center, and in core academic texts including Understanding Emotions and The Oxford Handbook of Evolution and the Emotions.

His academic lineage includes Paul Ekman, Dacher Keltner, and Marc Brackett, three of the most influential figures in modern emotion science. Today, Daniel helps mission-driven founders, executive teams, nonprofits, foundations, and regenerative organizations build the capital, governance, and intelligent systems they need to scale with integrity.
